Types of Data Representation
There are many ways that data can be represented. Each type
of data collected, would have an optimal way of being represented. Below are
some types and examples:
- Table
A table displays data best when organising information into categories and gives a better perspective of what trends the data is showing. Then from the table, it can be displayed on a different type of representation, if required. Tallying is also performed on a table.
- Bar Graph
A bar graph displays groups of data along the ‘x’ axis and frequency (or number) on the ‘y’ axis. The height of each bar indicates the frequency or number of data in each group.
- Pie Graph
A pie graph shows groups of information in sections which makes a circle or pie. The larger the section of the pie, the greater the amount of data is represented.
- Line Graph
A line graph is similar to a bar graph, in the respect of an ‘x’ and ‘y’ axis. A line graph uses points, which are plotted throughout their frequency. Lines are used to connect these points/dots to show trends.
